    Underwriting

    Underwriter / Trainer

    TITLE: Sr. Underwriter / Trainer
    REPORTS TO: SVP Underwriting
    DEPARTMENT: Underwriting / Training

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the SVP Underwriting, the Underwriting Supervisor is responsible for the day to day supervision of the underwriting department; entering and maintaining the daily underwriting assignment log; assigning loans to underwriters for timely underwriting and delivery to clients; and providing daily underwriting updates to SVP, Underwriting.

    This individual is also responsible for performing miscellaneous duties related to training and development. Specific duties for training include preparation and facilitation of training through live in-person sessions, live webinars, on-line courses, and instructional materials.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Update Underwriting Assignment Log on a daily basis to include all loans received via box or other electronic delivery system from clients to be underwritten.
    • Assign loans to staff underwriters based on their underwriting competency and level in order to provide clients with complete underwriting reviews per contractual timeframes.
    • Assist SVP, Underwriting in the finalization of MSR pools to include compliance results, final due diligence grading and final reporting.
    • Assist underwriters in delivering quality credit reviews by answering guideline questions, and scenario discussions.
    • Some travel may be required.
    • Learn and become an authority on FHA, VA , USDA and GSE policies, procedures and guidelines
    • Facilitate classroom and online training and activities. Adjust activities according to audience needs
    • Train classroom participants using a performance- based training model with role-plays, case studies and coaching.
    • Perform other duties as assigned


    Prepare training materials, drafts, outlines or course documents as assigned

    • Improve and expand current training curriculum and ongoing development
    • Ensure high employee and client retention by creating a welcoming environment
    • Act as a point of support contact for those that have been trained
    • Communicate with SVP, Underwriting regularly regarding classroom attendance, participant performance, materials created, etc.
    • Some travel may be required.
    • Perform other duties as assigned


    ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & LICENSES:

    • Ability to work independently and to motivate self
    • Ability to establish a professional and collaborative working relationship with company associates
    • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime during peak business flow
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Personal computer, facsimile, photocopier, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment so that company efficiency and productivity standards are met
    • Computer competence and the ability to use media effectively
    • Expert knowledge of mortgage and lending terminology and regulatory requirements


    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
    • Minimum, 3 years recent underwriting experience in conventional and government loans.
    • DE CHUMs number / VA SARS preferred but not required.
    • Expert knowledge in Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA and USDA loan underwriting guidelines.

    • Experience with building relationships with CEOs and other C-suite corporate executives;
    • Three to ten years of proven experience within mortgage lending market;
    • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding established revenue goals;
    • Ability to penetrate large accounts and uncover new opportunities;
    • Experience with long sales cycles of 6-12 months;
    • Experience with delivery organization partnerships that offer a broad range of services.


    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience;
    • Skilled in account strategy, planning and forging “C” level relationships;
    • Possesses extensive industry experience with Fortune 500 clients;
    • Proven track record of significantly growing new business accounts.
